This one had been collecting dust on the watchlist for probably a couple years now and I’m real glad to have checked it off. The film tries to be so much–a thriller, a dark comedy, a multicharacter study, a reflection on loyalty and rebellion; and it draws from such a wide spectrum of filmmaking elements–captivating plot turns, ambiguous epigraphs and dream sequences, gritty fight scenes, wistful and surprisingly touching interludes–and it all somehow just works. It’s like they took a little bit of every movie, tossed them into a huge blender with a dozen gallons of blood, and somehow churned out a charmingly delicious soup. Do yourself a favor and go watch it.
