I did a similar ranking with the Rocky movies a while back and that one was a little more complex than I remember. For this ranking I’ll attempt to look at the movies as a whole rather than breaking them down into individual parts as I did with Rocky. I will be excluding the .5 movies (3.5 and 4.5 are great, but I haven’t seen the rest in a long time) and Bad Grandpa as I don’t have a huge interest in it. With that said, here it is…
- Jackass Number Two (2006): While this movie contains the best closing skit in the franchise, the content in between isn’t nearly as good as others. 2 includes an excess amount of Bad Grandpa skits which I personally don’t find that funny upon rewatch.
- Jackass: The Movie (2002): The first movie after the TV show, Jackass: The Movie takes the foundation built by the show and elevates the material. While Number Two contained very good and very bad skits, Jackass: The Movie is a much more consistent watch.
- Jackass Forever (2022): While the tragic death of Ryan Dunn and the exit of Bam Margera took away two of the biggest personalities on set, the addition of new cast members brought a fun diversity to the set. This movie contains some more complex and mature skits than some of the older movies, but that just adds a nuance to the pure slapstick that is the base of the Franchise. Jackass Forever gave the franchise a new life that offers breath of fresh air from the constant media consumption in the short-form content age.
- Jackass 3D (2010): Jackass 3D saw the Jackass crew in their prime. Steve-O’s first movie sober delivered consistently the best skits in the whole franchise and a heartwarming credits sequence. Furthermore, but Jackass 3D contained the best intro in all of the franchise. In all, it is the re-watchability that makes Jackass 3D the best movie in an incredible franchise.
There it is. A comprehensive ranking of the Jackass franchise canon.
